World Hydrography Day Celebration – 2022

Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service (SLNHS) today commemorated the World Hydrography Day 2022 in collaboration with the National Hydrographic Office of National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA).

The World Hydrography Day in this year carries the theme ‘Hydrography contribution to the United Nations Ocean Decade’. Sri Lanka being a member state of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), celebrates this event annually.

This year event programme had several interactions with stakeholder agencies (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NARA, Department of Survey, Sri Lanka Port Authority, Sabaragamuwa University etc.) and releasing of 60 seconds videos on following;

  • Anavilundawa Assisted Natural Regeneration of Mangrove Project. 
  • Re- gazetting of Base Point of Sri Lanka.
  • SLNHS Contribution to Major Surveys of National Interest.
  • Training of Future Hydrographers.
  • ENC productions/MSDI/Main Commercial Harbour Surveys.

SLNHS also has taken lead to establish Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure (MSDI), which can be access from msdi.navy.lk web site. These initiatives are taken to make Sri Lanka a key partner and a player in the field of Hydrography.
