Chief Hydrographer of the Navy calls on Secretary Defence

Chief Hydrographer of the Navy Rear Admiral Sisira Jayakody called on Secretary Defence Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne at the Ministry of Defence yesterday.

The Chief Hydrographer explained the Secretary Defence on present progress of Hydrographic affairs of the country and involvement of Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service initiating to put forward a proposal to conduct bathymetry surveys without compromising national security. A short documentary was also screened that depicts the naval involvement of Hydrography in the country.

The Secretary Defence highlighted the security concerns of Hydrographic surveys conducted within the jurisdiction of Sri Lanka by various parties and instructed the Chief Hydrographer to device a suitable mechanism for the conduct of such surveys.

RAdm Jayakody Handed over two defence charts produced by Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service facilitating for defence operations and presented a memento to Secretary Defence marking this special event.
