RV Samudrika post survey on marine environment after RV Xpress Pearl (IMO 9875343) Ship incident
Sri Lanka Navy officially took over the operations of Sri Lanka’s only national marine research platform, RV Samudrika from 28th February 2019. Scientists of National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) and naval personnel qualified in hydrography of Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service (SLNHS) carried out research expeditions and surveys since then and the latest expedition was to conduct post survey on marine environment after MV Xpress Pearl ship incident off Colombo.
RV Samudrika sailed from Dikkovita Fishery Harbour on 01st June 2021 with permeant ship’s crew (07 pers) and 10 personnel from NARA including scientist and the media team. Water samples and sediment samples will be collected during the passage for environmental impact assessment in vicinity of the casualty ship and further investigation and processing of data will take place at the NARA laboratories.
