SLNHS Hydrographers Interaction with Prof. Charitha Pattiaratchi
Prof. Charitha Pattiaratchi, who is an eminent intellect in the Ocean Graduate School, University of Western Australia Oceans institute (UWA) and professor in International Space Centre, engaged with Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service on the timely subject of MSDI for Hydrographers on 08th February 2022. MSDI (Marine Spatial Data Infrastructure) is one of the primary focus of IHO which creates infrastructure that promotes interoperability of data at all levels.
During this engagement he elaborate and discussed the necessity of the MSDI for the country in time of a national disaster such as Tsunami and Cyclone in order to mitigate the effect of such catastrophes. Further, the audience engaged with the professor with many question on ocean matters ranging from weather to under water currents.
The Chief of Staff and the Joint Chief Hydrographer to the Government of Sri Lanka also attend the session.
