Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service (SLNHS) has conducted a series of lectures to enhance the knowledge on Hydrography and Navigation for the undergraduates of Ruhuna University as per the request made by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and Technology from 08th August 2022 to 11th August 2022 at the university premises.
The course module was comprised with 02 days of theory classes which impart the knowledge on Hydrography, Topographic surveying, Depth determination, Water level and flow, Positioning, Introduction to Cartography, Hydrographic survey planning, Navigation and Chart work. It was also followed by 02 days of practical sessions for them to experience the ground reality while conducting a survey at Galle harbour under the supervision of officers and sailors of SLNHS.
The students’ positive engagement during the lectures and their enthusiasm during the practical sessions highlighted the interest among university students in the field of Hydrography.
