Inauguration Ceremony of the Training Programme on Awareness and Production of Electronic Navigation Charts(ENCs)
On 23rd of November 2021, the Chief of Staff and the Chief Hydrographer of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral YN Jayarathna inaugurated the Training Programme on Awareness and Production of Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs) at Light House Galley, Colombo and the event was attended by the Professor A. Navaratnerajah, Chairman, National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA), Dr. Palitha Kithsiri, Director General, NARA, Mr. Timothy Lewis, Head of Partnering and Engagement – Middle East and Africa of United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO), Mr. Jeremy Kitchker, International Training Manager of UKHO and the officials of the Sri Lanka Navy Hydrographic Service (SLNHS) and the NARA. Welcoming the gathering, Director Hydrographic Operations, Captain Sujeewa Weerasuriya stressed the importance of Electronic Navigation Charts in present day context and expressed gratitude to the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office for their continued support in developing Hydrography in Sri Lanka.
The training programme was offered by the UKHO as a part of their contribution towards the capacity building in the field of Hydrography in Sri Lanka and the programme will be conducted by three instructors from the UKHO. Ten participants; 5 officers each from SLNHS and NARA will undergo the training during 03 weeks training programme.
